Our History

Seven Homes was founded in February 1995 in High Point, North Carolina, by a passionate group of Social Workers, Direct Care Staff, and Mental Health Professionals. United by concern for the outcomes of children in the foster care system, they came together to create an alternative—one that would respond to the harsh realities of frequent placement disruptions, prolonged stays in care, and the lack of permanency for many children, youth, and young adults.

Over the years, Seven Homes has grown in both scope and impact. Now headquartered in Jamestown, NC, we proudly serve families across the entire state of North Carolina. Though our footprint has expanded, our mission remains unchanged: to meet the needs of vulnerable children with integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment.

Our guiding philosophy is simple but profound: we seek homes for children, not children for families. This belief shapes everything we do—from our collaborative partnerships with the NC Department of Social Services and the North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program, to our steadfast efforts to reunify families whenever possible.

At the heart of our work is a holistic commitment to the children we serve. We strive to meet each child’s spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs, ensuring they are surrounded by love, stability, and the opportunity to thrive.

Why The Name "Seven Homes"?

When Seven Homes was first founded, there was no name—only a deep sense of purpose and a desire to bring healing to children from hard places. The journey began not with a title, but with a mission statement and a logo: a rainbow emerging from a storm cloud, symbolizing the hope and healing that follows trauma. The rainbow, with its seven colors, became a powerful image of restoration.

As plans were drawn for a group home, an architect designed three homes for boys and three for girls. Later, the state recommended adding a seventh home—a place where children could go in emergencies without disrupting the others in the middle of the night. The number seven continued to appear, and its biblical meaning of completeness resonated deeply with the vision. What started as a practical step became something much more: a name that reflects both our origin story and our belief that every child deserves the chance to find healing and belonging.
